Craft Workshop: Make Them Work For It

A hands-on exploration of character agency and its impact on reader investment,
and the importance of messiness and obstacles in your manuscript. This workshop will include two short writing exercises to apply the concepts, plus group sharing and discussion.

Publishing Presentation: What Are Gatekeepers Looking For?

For editors and literary agents, loving your manuscript is only one part of the
equation—they're also evaluating your book against specific criteria, and most
writers have no idea what those criteria are. Together, we’ll look over a real
acquisitions form to decode exactly what publishing gatekeepers are looking for in a project—and how to make sure your query letter or submission package speaks to it.
